Linfield 4, Louisiana College 1

MARSHALL, Texas (5/9/09) -- Top-seeded Linfield scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning Saturday, and the Wildcats defeated defending West Regional champion Louisiana College 4-1 at the 2009 NCAA Division III Softball Championship First-Round Tournament at ETBU's Taylor Field.

The loss sends LC (37-8) home and keeps the Lady Wildcats from advacing to the national championship tournament for a second straight year. Linfield (38-5) stayed alive in the tournament and will play host ETBU in an elimination game later Saturday, with the winner of that game set to advance to Sunday's championship against Texas-Tyler.

Senior McCaslin Carson (15-4) took the loss despite allowing just one earned run on six hits in five complete innings. Two Lady Wildcat errors in the decisive fourth inning were enough for Linfield and starter Kendra Strahm (12-1), who went the distance by scattering eight hits.

Louisiana College out-hit Linfield, 8-6, in the game.
