Texas-Tyler 2, Redlands 1

MARSHALL, Texas (5/7/09) -- Texas-Tyler's Ashley Klores drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning to drive in what would be the winning run in the Patriots' 2-1 victory over Redlands in first-round action at Thursday's NCAA Division III Softball Championship West Regional at ETBU's Taylor Field.

The win sends the Patriots (35-8) into a winner's bracket game against top-seeded Linfield (36-4) on Friday, as Linfield eliminated Redlands (30-12) with an 8-5 win Thursday night.

UT Tyler, the American Southwest Conference tournament champion, almost wasted the scoring opportunity in the 1-1 tie. The Patriots loaded the bases with no outs but Redlands pitcher Olivia Ellis (23-6) coaxed fly ball outs from Julie Smith and Whitney Wyly before walking Klores.

UT Tyler took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on doubles from Roo Richardson and Wyly. The Bulldogs tied the game in the second inning on Roxy Lambert's two-out RBI double to left.

Stacy Shepherd (9-0) allowed no earned runs on just four hits in getting the complete game win for UT Tyler. Ellis allowed two earned runs on eight hits and struck out six in the loss.
