A cold cold night

First-half trouble on offense sends ETBU to 87-65 loss at Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. (11/18/08) – Northwestern State used a smothering defense in the first half to take control of the game, and the Demons cruised from there on the way to an 87-65 win over ETBU in men’s basketball action Tuesday night at Prather Coliseum.

The loss drops the Tigers to 1-1 on the season. ETBU will play in the Austin College Classic this weekend in Sherman, with games against Austin College and University of Dallas on Friday and Saturday.

Northwestern, with four straight appearances in the Southland Conference championship game, evens its record at 1-1. The Demons were coming off an 83-65 loss at Indiana on Saturday night.

The Demons’ defense swarmed the Tigers from the opening tip, limiting ETBU to just two free throws by James Morman through the first 10 minutes. ETBU didn’t make a shot from the field until La’France Cooper’s layup at the 10:07 mark of the half, and by then Northwestern was cruising with an 11-4 lead.
