PURPOSE

The motto of Student Foundation, “Students Helping Students”, captures the essence of the organization’s work, which is divided into three areas: raising scholarship funds for juniors and seniors, recruiting new students for the university, and sponsoring student activities. The most important aspect of Student Foundation work is raising money for student scholarships. Junior and seniors often find it more difficult to obtain financial aid than do freshmen and sophomores. Student Foundation makes an effort to find worthy upperclassmen who need the scholarship in order to continue their education. Student Foundation campus-wide events help promote healthy student life, help create a positive morale on campus, and encourage others in their university experience. Student Foundation operates under the auspices of the Division of Institutional Advancement.

WHAT IS STUDENT FOUNDATION

In 1979 the group called Student Foundation was formed and officially commissioned by the president of the university for the purpose of helping other students with their college education. Organized with only twelve members, the first group raised money for 15 scholarships and sponsored one campus-wide event their first year. Today, with an annual membership of more than twenty students, they continue their task of funding substantial scholarships for juniors and seniors approaching graduation. They also participate in the Homecoming parade and silent auction, sponsor the “Big Switch” each fall, and produce the premier spring event, the “Tiger Awards”. All funds raised from these events go toward funding student scholarships for the coming year.

SPONSORSHIPS:

Student Foundation is self-supporting and receives no funds from the University or any other agency. Each member is required to raise $200 in sponsorship money. These fund are not scholarship funds. They are used exclusively for the Foundation budget and operating expenses, including administrative costs and the expenses of travel, publications, and recruitment efforts. You can help sponsor a student foundation member with any gift up to $200.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

Student Foundation can be an important influence in the lives of many students of ETBU. Each year new scholarship funds must be raised to meet student needs. No scholarship money is used for administrative expenses and any contribution to this fund will go directly toward helping a worthy junior or senior finish his or her program
