ACT - AmericanCollegeTest
This is a general academic skills test that is given nationally and accepted for admission by most colleges and universities. The test is given at ETBU and many other locations throughout the nation. Advance registration is required to take the test and a minimum fee of $29 is charged for no writing and $43 for ACT plus writing. Informational brochures and registration forms are available at ETBU or you can access information and registration at the act website at http://www.act.org.

The Residual ACT is the same test as the National Act Test but the scores are valid only for admission to ETBU. You may contact the ETBU Advising and CareerDevelopmentCenterto obtain information and to register for this test. The test fee is $42, and may be paid in cash, money order or on-line with a credit card. You should call and come by the office to pay/register for this test at least three days prior to the test date. You cannot retake the Residual ACT until 60 days have passed since your last Residual ACT test date. Residual ACT scores are usually available the same day you take the test.

 

JQE - Junior Qualifying Exam

This test is administered at ETBU and is required for graduation. The test is usually taken after completion of 45 semester hours and must be passed before the student can enroll for upper division courses once 90 semester hours have been completed. The JQE exams are free if taken prior to earning 90 hours credit but a fee of $50 must be paid if the exams are taken after achieving 90 hours credit. The Schools of Education and Nursing require you to pass all portions of this exam before you will be permitted to take courses in their curriculum.

This test measures general education basic skills that should be obtained during the first 2 years of college. The test includes sections on mathematics, writing an essay, and oral communication skills. A study guide for the Math exam is available on this website section.

The writing portion of the JQE is administered in the ENGL 1302 class using criterion and satisfactory scores on this particular essay will award credit for the JQE essay section of the exam. The Oral section of the JQE is part of the requirements in SPCH 1311. Satisfactory completion of selected requirements will earn credit for the JQE oral section. The Math portion of the JQE is administered in MATH 1342, 1314, 1300, and 2313. The assessment is embedded in the final exam in these classes and successfully completed the student is awarded credit for the Math JQE. Credit for the Math JQE is also awarded if the student passes MATH 2301 or MATH 1316. Transfer students not taking these courses at ETBU or students that fail to receive credit in the listed classes must take the JQE exams by registering with the Advising Office to be tested on selected dates.

If you register for any portion of the JQE and do not keep your appointment you will be accessed a fine of $25 for missing the appointment. The deadline to signup to take this exam is usually 2 weeks prior to the scheduled test date.

THEA-Texas Higher Education Assessment

This test is a measure of basic skills in reading, writing and math. It is required of all students seeking admission to a state supported college. There are provisions for exemptions to this test requirement for those who qualify. A minimum fee of $29 is charged to register for the test. The THEA website is www.thea.nesinc.com . CLEP (COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM)

There are currently 34 different CLEP tests on a variety of subjects in the fields of business, composition and literature, foreign languages, history and social sciences, science and mathematics. A passing score on any of these tests can allow you to receive college level credit at more than 2,900 colleges and universities in the United States. You should check with the Admissions office or Advising office at the college that you would attend and their exact requirements and participation in this program. This program can actually allow you to get college credit without taking the course. Each CLEP exam requires a $70 fee by credit card and a separate payment for $15 made payable to ETBU. You must complete a registration form, which can be obtained from the student advising office at ETBU.
